Rohan Bopanna takes on master artisans for Jaipur Rugs

It started with a collaboration between Greg Foster, artistic director at Jaipur Rugs and Himanshu Lakhwani, creative director at Truetype, to create a campaign to launch Jaipur Rugs’ London store, just in time for Wimbledon 2024. Bringing to life the combination of tennis and carpets, “The Court of Carpets” was where a game would be played between World No. 2 and Grand Slam Champion Rohan Bopanna and the Master Artisans at Jaipur Rugs.

On the ground in the scorching 45-degree Celsius heat, the court of carpets was made and remade multiple times until it was just right. Then came the players, a renowned champion and newly trained artisans and the umpire, none other than the owner of Jaipur Rugs, Mr Nand Kishore Chaudhary.

No details were spared. The tennis balls made of yarn (with real tennis balls underneath) prototyped by an in-house team at the Jaipur Rugs Jaipur Headquarters, the hand-knotted net, Pierre Jeanneret chairs and Jaipuri chatriyan were used in the courtside scenography along with some peacocks to add that Jaipur element.

This match, won by the artisans, sits in the books as an iconic campaign which has become a reference point for creative direction and film. Spoken about vastly in the media, across publications like Vogue Italia, it is still being studied in 2026, like the Somewhere India post and Vogue Singapore and on many other social platforms as well. With more than 84,000 likes on Instagram in a single reel, which garnered more than one million views, the campaign was a roaring success.

As a finishing touch to the campaign, Truetype designed the logo with a peacock, a symbolic representation of Jaipur, and its feathers turned into tennis rackets as an ode to the sport.
